Frequently Asked Questions

Why does The Effiong Firm focus on education & enterprise?

At its root, The Effiong Firm exists to ensure all people have both the knowledge and the ability to lead a purposeful life. We believe that access to quality education and the ability to fund your dreams allows you to reach your full potential and live a happier, healthier life.

Society will be better if every person regardless of race, class, gender or ability, is able to fulfill their purpose and offer their very best to the world in exchange.

“Education is the most powerful weapon with which you can use to change the world.”- Nelson Mandela.

A well-educated person can achieve the impossible.

What is enterprise?

Enterprise is the act of starting and managing companies, including for-profit, nonprofit and hybrid organizations. Our enterprise practice helps small- or micro- organizations start with a solid legal foundation, create sound systems, and scale their impact.

We focus on equipping this sector with the strategy it needs to generate wealth, provide jobs and move entire communities forward.

What happens during a consultation and why do you charge for it?

In today’s world, information is readily available. With a quick internet search, you can access much of the information you desire. If you are coming to us, we assume you want us to make sense of that information and set you on the right track. You are investing in a result.

Our consultations include laser-focused strategy sessions geared towards helping you solve your problem efficiently. They are not a sales pitch. We are intentional about providing real value.

During our consultation, we discuss your matter, including all the information and documents you provide to us in advance. Then, we give you our best recommendation on how to proceed based on our specific knowledge of the law. If we can solve your problem in a 30-minute session, we will. If you have an issue for which there is not a legal solution, we provide you with alternative options on how you can solve the problem using other advocacy techniques.

Can you tell me if I have a case before I schedule a consultation?

Unfortunately, no. Our attorney has to review the specifics of your matter to determine whether there is a legal solution to your problem. That review and analysis only occur during a scheduled consultation.

How do I know if you are the right attorney for me?

Hiring an attorney is a significant investment of time and resources. We understand that. At The Effiong Firm, we want you to find the best attorney for you. While we hope it is us, if it is not, we want you to be equipped to pick a great legal partner. Here are two questions we think you should consider:

  1. Does this attorney practice in the same area as my issue? Most attorneys practice in a handful of areas at most. We recommend you review the attorney’s website to see if they handle issues similar to yours.
  2. Do I feel comfortable interacting with this attorney? When you hire an attorney, you are entering into a potentially long-term relationship with him or her. One that should be rooted in mutual trust and respect. If you do not feel comfortable discussing matters with your attorney, the relationship will not work effectively. Yes, you want an attorney who gets results but you also want to have a generally pleasant experience. Legal problems are stressful enough on their own.

Reviews and testimonials can also assist you as you decide. Try not to get too caught up in awards and titles. Those can be purchased. Focus instead on making sure you are comfortable with the attorney and that (s)he is competent and equipped to advocate on your behalf. The consultation is a great opportunity to gauge whether the attorney is the right fit for you.
